Twilio, a San Francisco-based cloud communications platform company, has opened an office in Buckhead.

According to company representatives, Twilio plans to add more than 50 employees at the new office in the next few years, including positions in sales, human resources and engineering. The Atlanta office will hold a recruiting event for some of these positions from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 10 at WeWork Terminus.

“Incredible momentum in Twilio's customer base is fueling our need to expand the company's presence in new regions,” George Hu, Twilio's chief operating officer, said in a statement. “Atlanta brings us closer to a thriving business community and gives Twilio access to highly skilled talent--making it an ideal location for Twilio's next office. We look forward to building the team in Atlanta."

The company decided to open in Atlanta due to the city's number of Fortune 500 companies, a highly-skilled workforce and an opportunity to be closer to its growing customer base in the region, according to company spokeswoman Caitlin Epstein. The office is now open in the Terminus building in Buckhead.

"Our need to grow and expand Twilio's presence both in the US and internationally is fueled by customer momentum," she said. "Twilio is looking to establish presence in cities where our customer base is growing and a thriving developer community exists."

The publicly-traded tech company provides businesses one platform that allows them to reach customers wherever they are by virtualizing the world’s telecommunications infrastructure through APIs---simple enough for any developer to use.

"If you've received a call or text that your Lyft ride has arrived, confirmed a restaurant reservation with Opentable or Yelp, had a video appointment with your doctor via Doctor's on Demand, chatted with a customer service agent via Zendesk, or even received a two factor authentication code to login to Box---you're using Twilio," Epstein said.

Twilio employs more than 1,000 people across the world and hold offices in San Francisco, Mountain View, New York, Atlanta, Bogota, London, Dublin, Madrid, Tallinn, Melbourne, Berlin, Malmo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney.
