“Don’t be stupid. Get a wedding planner … We actually do know WTF we are talking about.” – Rachael Gross
When it comes to Boston-area weddings, there’s only one planner for the #antibride. And that’s Rachael Gross. The local wedding planner and owner of lolagraceEVENTS has received numerous praise and accolades for her exceptional and honest approach to wedding planning.
Appealing to #antibrides everywhere, Gross was named Best Wedding Planner by the Improper Bostonian, featured on Boston.com as well as the Huffington Post. Here, the wedding planner tells BostInno how she spends her days running a business and planning non-traditional weddings.
How do you spend most mornings?
First things first, I consume about an entire pot of coffee. Snuggle with my daughter, Penny Lou, watch Sesame Street and reply to emails. (All. At. The. Same. Time.)
What are the top priorities on your to-do list right now?
Venue scouting for wedding clients looking for a Great Gatsby style wedding, styling a gorgeous wedding based on Indian-Jewish fusion and writing an event management proposal for one of Boston’s best Farmers Markets!
What do you enjoy most about owning and running lolagraceEVENTS?
The freedom to do it my way. The ability to work with clients that I want to be friends with. And being different from my competition. I love the fact that my clients find a connection with my brand: #antibride.
What is the worst part and the best part about your typical day?
The best part is the freedom to do it my way. The worst part of my day is not having more than 24 hours available to use. There is always more work to do … and there is always fun to be had. I want it all.
If you could impart one piece of wedding advice to our readers, what would it be?
Don’t be stupid. Get a wedding planner. We save you money. We save you from disaster. We save you time. Oh, and listen to your planner. We actually do know WTF we are talking about.
What would you do if you were suddenly granted a day off from work tomorrow?
Sleep in, pamper myself with some spa services, and drink wine. Lot’s of wine. Boring I know, but I really just want to feel rejuvenated!
What is one wedding that you will never forget?
Ahhh, it has to be antibride DANIELLE and antigroom CHRIS. They were married 5 days after I gave birth to my daughter, Penny Lou. Not only was the wedding over the top with thousands of red roses and just the right amount of sparkle, but the clients, their friends and family were SO over the top genuinely good people!
If you weren’t answering my questions, what would you be doing instead?
Scouting patterned table runners, building style boards and creating a proposal for a newlywed brunch. Either way, I am still jamming to Lorde.
Us too, Rachael, us too.
