As we bid adieu to 2013 and welcome in 2014, we reflect on the year that was and look ahead to the year that will be. This practice of reviewing and predicting, evaluating and advancing, is of the utmost importance when it comes to the marketing industry. In the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of advertising, pausing to ponder the state of the industry and explore the future is key to sustaining creativity and progress.

Enter the EDGE Conference. Every year, the Ad Club invites Boston’s ad community to examine what’s happening, what’s new and what’s next in the marketing world. At this half-day conference to be held Monday, January 13, industry influencers gather to hear a diverse set of speakers tell their story and share their thoughts on what’s to come for marketing and advertising. But most of all, EDGE is a chance to celebrate the disruptors, game-changers and innovators who are at the forefront of the industry.

EDGE never fails to impress, always recruiting the biggest names in the biz and giving attendees a rich, inspiring experience. But this year is special. Any Bostonian would agree that 2013 was a year like no other, one that will go down in history and memory. As we leave 2013 behind, the Ad Club decided to focus the scope of EDGE on one key segment of the industry: the Hub of the universe.

The 2014 EDGE Conference has adopted the theme “Branded in Boston” to celebrate the revolutionary brands, services and innovative ideas that were conceived in Boston and destined to influence the future of marketing, media and branding. Boston may be a small city, but out of it comes larger-than-life innovations. We live, work and play in one of the most creative communities on the planet. Global ideas are born right here in our own backyard.  The 2014 EDGE Conference will shine a well-deserved spotlight on Boston’s thriving marketing scene and what it means to build a brand here in Boston.

In line with this year’s theme, the 2014 EDGE speakers are the faces of uniquely Boston brands. From Sean Belka, SVP of Fidelity Center for Applied Technology and John Costello, Dunkin’ Brands President of Global Marketing & Innovation; to Skip Bennett, Founder of Island Creek Oysters and Will and Dave Willis, Founders of Bully Boy Distilleries; the EDGE speakers have been deep in trenches building local brands, many from the ground up.

Each and every local luminary slated to speak at EDGE boasts incredible contributions to the Boston scene, but one speaker can’t help but stand above the rest.Mayor Thomas M. Menino will be joining Mike Sheehan of Hill Holliday and James Gallagher of John Hancock to discuss The One Fund. Creation of the One Fund was a milestone moment for our city and hearing from the three of its primary architects will certainly be a highlight of the conference.

Even beyond the compelling and inspiring speakers, EDGE 2014 promises to be an elevated experience. EDGE transcends your typical conference set up, trading in cold, massive auditoriums for the intimate Institute of Contemporary Art. The Ad Club encourages attendees to “come for the conference and stay for the art,” treating guests to a private viewing of ICA galleries which will remain open from 5 to 7 p.m. following the conference.

But that’s not the only reason to stay: Following the conference will be an upscale waterside cocktail reception, held against spectacular views of the Boston Harbor. Guests will sip specialty cocktails and shooters by Bully Boy Distillers, and sample the Island Creek Oyster bar and culinary specialties from Wolfgang Puck.

From Ad Club President Kathy Kiely’s welcome to the last sip of Bully Boy Boston Rum, EDGE 2014 Branded in Boston will be a dynamic evening like none other. More than a conference, EDGE will be an enlightening examination of the local marketing ecosystem and an exciting look at what’s to come.
