Pretty nice weekend, weather-wise, we’ve got here. Perfect opportunity to spend a couple days in a giant windowless box learning about marijuana!
Nerd Out at PAX East – All weekend – Boston Convention Center – If you’re a serious gamer, you’ve already registered for what’s basically the holy grail of gaming conventions. If you’re a gamer and just finding out about this now, you’re not really a gamer. Maybe you can follow along on your Xbox Live, or something?
Flex Your Beards & Bourbon – 6 to 8 p.m. – Ball and Buck – Complimentary beard trims, free samples of the best beard oils going, and bourbon cocktails from Buffalo Trace. You’re welcome.
Drink to the Bavarian Purity Law – All day – Olde Magoun’s Saloon – On April 23, 1516 (yeah, 500 years ago) a law knows as Reinheitsgebot, or the Bavarian Purity Law, was enacted mandating all beer be made with the barley, hops, water and yeast. Celebrate in style with a smorgasbord (that’s Swedish, but whatever) or German beer and food, including house-made pretzels.
Watch the Monster Energy Supercross – 3:30 p.m. – Gillette Stadium – That’s a giant and important motorbike race, for those of you who saw that and were hoping this entailed monster trucks. Still should be fun, though. Ticket prices vary.
Tour MIT in a Whole New Way – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Under the Dome – Gear up for more than 350 activities during this unique open house, open to people of all ages, not just perspective students who are definitely smarter than you. From rowing races to the arts, robots to burning a bunch of charcoal (no joke), there’s something for everyone.
Bar Crawl the Freedom Trail – Noon to 7 p.m. – Faneuil Hall – “It’s time to channel your inner bar beast and conquer the best bars in historic Boston!” Bud Light is a sponsor. And it comes with a T-shirt. Our founding fathers would be so proud.
New England Cannabis Convention – Saturday & Sunday – Hynes Convention Center – “A ‘must attend’ for anyone interested in the fastest growing industry in America.” Alright alright alright.
Experience the Paralympics – 1 to 4 p.m. – Boston College High School – “The Paralympic Experience is a one-day, multi-sport introductory clinic where individuals who have physical disabilities or visual impairments of any age can try a sport for the first time, get expert coaching, learn about local programs and be with others interested in adaptive sports.” Free.
