Happy almost weekend! As Thursday comes to an end and the glorious weekend gets closer on the horizon, it’s time to start making weekend plans. You don’t wanna be the only one saying ‘oh, nothing’ when people ask what you’ve got on the books before Monday, do you? Let’s assume not.


Free Fun Fridays Kick Off – 10 a.m. – Multiple venues – The Highland Street Foundation’s Free Fun Fridays program is back this summer starting Friday, June 27, when seven local museums and institutions, including the Franklin Park Zoo and MIT Museum, will provide free admission all day. Check the site each week for more places to go for free.

Mayflower Custom Brew and Tap Takeover – 4 to 11 p.m. – Hopsters – This Friday, brew a custom beer with the team at Hopsters and Mayflower Brewing Co. Tickets are $99 and include your own case of beer. If you can’t make it to the brew, which starts at 4 p.m., head to Hopsters for a good old fashioned tap takeover, where they’ll be serving Mayflower brews for no cover charge.

Office to Octagon Fight for Charity – 8 p.m. – House of Blues – Boston’s corporate fight club is back at it this Friday night, putting professionals into the ring to fight for charity after months of training. See the show and support Boston’s underserved youth. Tickets range between $100 and $150.

Somerville Local First 90s Prom – 8 p.m. – Cuisine en Locale – This 90s themed, prom style party will raise money for Somerville Local First, and you’re advised to go all out, as they’ll be crowing a Prom Queen, Prom King and a ‘something in between.’ There will be cocktails and bites as well as a raffle. Tickets are $20.

19th Annual Newport Flower Show – June 27-29 – Newport Mansions – If you’re looking to get away this weekend, there’s no better place to go than the Newport Flower Show at the Rosecliff Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. With an opening cocktail reception and a champagne brunch taking place over the course of the weekend, not to mention the scenic mansions and flowers, it’s bound to be a beautiful trip. Tickets are $25 on Friday, and $23 on Saturday and Sunday.


Sweat and Swim with The Handle Bar – Multiple times – The Handle Bar Fenway – Crush Boutique will be posting up at The Handle Bar this Saturday, where the classes (8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) will be summer themed, and riders are invited to sup free pink lemonade afterward and shop the latest swim and summer styles from Crush right in the studio with a 15 percent off discount. Classes are $20 and must be reserved in advance.

Boston JerkFest and Rum and Brew Tasting – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology – This outdoor/indoor family friendly, Caribbean style festival will feature lots of delicious food, music, chef demos, cocktail tastings and more. There will also be the rum and brew tasting, which includes unlimited samples of Caribbean rum and beers, available with a separate ticket purchase. Both tickets to the fest and tasting are $45.

Boards, Beer and Cheese – noon to 6 p.m. – Night Shift Brewing – Check out the new space at Night Shift Brewing in Everett this Saturday with the Surfrider Foundation and Roxy’s Grilled Cheese. One membership to Surfrider will be donated, and guests are invited to eat, drink and have fun.

17th Annual Taste of Allston – noon to 3 p.m. – Harvard University Murr Center – Food from Allston’s best eateries, beer from Sam Adams, live music and a raffle all make this a great Saturday event. Tickets are $25 beforehand or $30 at the door and include one drink ticket.

Sailing Open House – 1 to 4 p.m. – Boston Sailing Center – Sail for free this Saturday on the Boston Harbor, when the Boston Sailing Center will be hosting its last scheduled open house of the season. Take a ride on your own or with an experienced instructor and learn about the programs the center has to offer.

Reds, Whites and You Complimentary Wine Tasting – 1 to 6 p.m. – Wine ConneXtion – Head to North Andover for a free, patriotic wine tasting with varieties of reds and whites perfect for summer and your upcoming barbecue. All wines will be bottled in the USA.


Art in the Park – 2 to 3 p.m. – Assembly Row – This series brings artists and teachers to the banks of the Mystic River at Assembly Row to teach free outdoor art classes this summer, beginning on Sunday at Sylvester Baxter Riverfront Park. Classes will be offered every Sunday through July 27.

Dogfish Head Brewing Beer Dinner with Sam Calagione – 3:30 to 5:30 – The Merchant – Founder and President of Dogfish Head Brewing is hosting a four course beer dinner with dishes like steak frites and clam chowder. Donations from the dinner will be made to the Nature Conservancy and each guest will receive a hat, glass and coozie. Tickets are $100.
