Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is an intense guy.
His on-ice freakouts are universally known. His helmets feature demonic animals and swords. His love for Finnish death metal earned him a ban from the team’s locker room stereo.
“I tried to play that in the locker room and people were like, ‘What the fuck is this?’ because it sounds like opera singing,” Rask said back in October. ”I’m pretty much banned from the DJ job because I like to mix in some Finnish heavy metal tunes and the guys really don’t like that. So I just put on my headphones sometimes and keep it to myself. That’s very Finnish”
It comes as no surprise that the 26-year-old Finn and noted Children of Bodom fan has been nominated for “Most Metal Athlete” in Revolver‘s 2014 Golden Gods Awards. Rask faces Tampa Bay Rays closer Grant Balfour, MMA fighter Josh Barnett, the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry, motocross’ Derek Garland and skateboarder Tony Alva.
Rask, the league’s highest paid goalie, appropriately named “Shitload of Money” by Finland’s Sonata Artica as one of his favorite songs in an interview with Esquire.
The award show is April 23, and you can vote for Rask here.
