This weekend, would you rather go to the Caribbean or the South End? Caribbean, easily. But what if I told you the Caribbean was coming to the South End this weekend – for $35? The South End, then, obviously.

On Saturday, Boston’s top Caribbean chefs will gather in the South End for the first annual JerkFest – a celebration of all things Caribbean. The clever name refers to the traditional jerk spice, a native of Boston, Jamaica, so it’s only fitting we’re celebrating here in Boston, MA.

At the JerkFest, we recommend starting with the food. Local restaurants and caterers will be on hand, dishing out spicy fare like jams, nuts, desserts and of course, meat.

If you wish you were sipping pina coladas on a beach, make sure you upgrade to the $35 ticket. The pricier ticket includes unlimited rum tastings from Berkshire Mountain Distillers, The Artisan Beverage Cooperative and Goslings Rum, as well as Caribbean cocktail creations. If beer’s your thing (and let’s be honest, it’s everyone’s thing), hit up the selection of craft brews. They’ll be pouring out 2 oz. samples from locals like Blue Hills Brewery, Down the Road Brewery, Night Shift, Sam Adams and more.

Once you’re full on jerk and booze, hit the dance floor. There will be live music all day long at the JerkFest, playing none other than the latest and greatest sounds of the Carbbiean.

Overall, the JerkFest will feel like a vacation. All that’s really missing is the sand, but that stuff is messy anyways.

Boston JerkFest takes place on Saturday, June 29th at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. To buy tickets to the JerkFest, click here.
