So this happened in South Boston Thursday afternoon.
Massachusetts State Police detonated a 12-inch cannonball on Carson Beach. Discovered by a fisherman at about 11:45 a.m., police tweeted that the cannonball may date as far back as the Civil War era.
State police decided to conduct a controlled detonation after a discussion with the United States Navy.

This is what the cannonball looked like before it exploped.
