While most of us our snuggled up on the couch, sipping wine, playing Nemo drinking games and watching the snow fall outside, there are some souls braving the storm out there. Working to keep the roads, sidewalks and public spaces safe during Nemo, snow plow drivers, utility workers and the like deserve extra special cognition during this terrible weather.

To show their appreciation, Cumberland Farms is saying, “Coffee on us” this weekend. Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and lasting until 5 a.m. on Sunday, the New England convenience store chain is giving away free coffee to plow drivers and utility workers. All workers will be offered a free cup of fresh brewed Farmhouse Blend coffee to keep them alert and focused while they brave the storm.

The deal is in effect at all Cumberland Farms locations that remain open during the storm.

As BostInno reported earlier today, snow crews are looking forward to the weather, after two years of little accumulation.

“There is definitely a level of excitement amongst the crew. This is what we get paid to do, this is like a fireman responding to a fire—when the bell rings, you are definitely ready for it,” Pete Silveira, owner of US Lawns, a plowing and commercial landscape maintenance company told us.

And the free coffee is necessary, as typical plowing shifts can run up to 30 hours. Workers split that into 12 hour shifts, getting sleep after their time on the road to rest and prepare for more snow.
