Late last week Dassault Systemes, a worldwide leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management solutions, opened their brand new North America headquarters on a massive 27 acre campus in Waltham. The event was well attended by local press and even included public figures such as His Excellency Francois Delattre, France’s Ambassador to the U.S. and Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray.

Office openings don’t usually excite me, here’s some new walls and cubes, etc, but this one in particular did. Why? Virtual reality is bad ass. The Dassault Systemes campus has a one of a kind virtual reality center that will be used for implementing and experiencing unique virtual worlds with their technology. On our tour we took tours of Egyptian Pyramids and completed training excessive on an off-shore oil rig. Aside, from about a minute of queasiness while in the virtual world, the experience was incredible.

The new Waltham headquarters was built with collaboration at its heart and literally brings together employees who had previously been split between Concord and Lowell. The campus includes 320,000 square feet in office space (split between two buildings) and plenty of open air courtyard space.

Before deciding on Waltham, Dassault also had bids on the enormous space next to us (at MassChallenge), which Vertex ended up taking.

Check out some of the photos from my visit to the Dassault Systemes opening last week.
