Needless to say, Boston’s City Councilor from Roxbury is paying it forward. On Sunday, November 23, Councilor Tito Jackson will give away 3,000 turkeys to families in need as part of his annual turkey giveaway.
To put in perspective how momentous Councilor Jackson’s charity is, consider that last year he and his constituents gave away just 1,700 turkeys.
He couldn’t have provided these Thanksgiving staples, though, without the help of Sumner St. Rental Property, Richard Geisser, Gilbane, Teamsters Local 25, Shawmut Design and Construction, Firefighters Local 718, Sage Systems, Charlesmark Hotel, and Lee Kennedy Co. Inc.
I am glad that we’re able to bring awesome sponsors together in the spirit of giving back to the community,” said Councilor Jackson. “This generous support continues to grow each year ensuring many more smiles each Thanksgiving. I would especially like to thank the many other sponsors for their generosity towards the residents of District 7 and the city as a whole.”
The giveaway will be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, located at 1350 Tremont Street, on Sunday, November 23, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you’re in the market for a new turkey, keep in mind that every family will be distributed one on a first come, first served basis.
“This event has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the overwhelming community response,” said Monica Cannon, Director of the Tito Jackson Community Fund. “In an amazing outpour of support, more than 150 Boston residents stepped up to the plate this year to volunteer and donate through our website.”
