Halloween is – ahem – this Friday, October 31. If right about now you’re thinking oh crap and racking your brain for some costume inspiration, it’s time to relax. At this point in the game, you’re likely not on the road to winning any cash prizes for your brilliantly clever costume, but there’s still no need to be that schlub who shows up to the Halloween party in jeans.

So, if you don’t want to drop money on a pre-packaged costume, it’s time to turn to your own closet for inspiration. You likely have a few staple items that you can configure into a worthy costume with a little creativity, and even if it’s not a mind-blowing get up, points for trying!

Just make sure you make a little extra time this week to pop into the nearby Halloween store for the few finishing touches likely not lingering in your closet. Otherwise, here’s your handy guide to re-imagining some staple items with a Halloween twist, perfect for a house party or casual night at the bar.
