America’s newest heart throbs? The Harvard baseball team. Honestly — what could make tweens squeal louder than a sports team parodying “Call Me Maybe?” (Beyond Justin Bieber.)

What started as a way to cure road trip boredom turned into stardom, and the team’s choreographed moves and seriously stern faces have spawned several spin-offs, including a nearly identical video from Texas State’s Club Baseball team and a twist from Southern Methodist University’s crew team.

The Today Show invited Harvard’s baseball team and SMU’s crew team in this morning for a little friendly competition, pitting the two against each other in a dance-off. How do you prepare to be on The Today Show, though? Just check out this video from Harvard Athletics.

Just for the record, the Harvard Baseball team’s 2010-2011 overall record was 9-36. And although they saw some improvement this year, jumping to 12-30, maybe they should stick to singing. After all, the girls have gone wild. I mean, I wouldn’t be opposed to the guys, you know, calling me. Maybe? Especially if they end up hanging out with Jeremy Lin. Player Jon Smart, now known famously for his winking abilities, has been tweeting at the Harvard alum:

The team clearly knows how to party:

And all the ladies are ready to party with them. Check out reactions following The Today Show. When audio goes live, we’ll be sure to embed that, as well. In the wise words of you tweeters: Harvard’s baseball team? Dammmmnnn.
