And here’s more on the game:
When you think of Va Tech and Clemson meeting in an important game, you usually think football. The two teams are football power houses but aren’t known for their basketball programs. That’s why this game doesn’t carry as much importance, especially since the Tigers and Hokies aren’t NCAA tournament teams and it’s likely that which ever team wins will wind up losing to Duke in the quarter finals on Friday.
North Carolina and Duke are likely to meet in the championship game of the ACC where the Blue Devils hope to avenge an 88-70 loss that UNC handed them at home at Cameron Indoor Stadium just last week.
Here’s more on the Clemson versus Virginia Tech game from the Kansas City Star:
Virginia Tech and Clemson have never met in the ACC Tournament, but that will change tonight as the 10th-seeded Hokies tangle with the No. 7 seed Tigers in first-round action at Philips Arena.
Virginia Tech holds a slim 13-12 series lead. The teams split the regular- season series, although Clemson notched a 58-56 home victory in the most recent meeting on March 1, capping a season-long three-game win streak. The winner of today’s matchup will advance to second-seeded Duke Friday night in the quarterfinal round.
The Hokies struggled through their league schedule, posting a 4-12 record and often falling in close games. Twelve of those 16 contests were decided by five points or fewer, including six of the last seven. Virginia Tech closed out the regular season with four consecutive losses.
