You might have missed it, but The Six-Word Memoirs Twitter Festival just ended yesterday after its run from September 24 to the 26. The “virtual storytelling celebration” consisted of celebrity participants prompting Twitter users with topics, and asking for a story in response, no longer than six words.

If you’re unfamiliar with the mini-memoir concept, six-word stories are often used as a creative writing exercise, and SMITH Magazine is credited for creating the project, which has resulted in books based on the very short stories. And what better way to celebrate the project than by taking it to Twitter, a tool notorious for abbreviated thoughts, in which every character and word counts?

The idea launched the three-day festival, which made use of 11 different prompts, with the celebrity judges taking over time slots and topics. To help make sense of the slew of tweets—hashtagged ‘six words’—a second hashtag denoted the memoir’s prompt. The schedule is listed below by day, hashtag and topic, along with the respective judges:

Day 1 – September 24

  • #neveragain: “I will never do that again,” judged by Jason Biggs, Regina Spektor, Piper Kerman and more ‘Orange is The New Black’ actors and affiliates.
  • #newcommandment: “Thou shalt tweet a new commandment,” judged by A.J. Jacobs, David Plotz and Slate.
  • #happysix: “The secrets to happiness are…” judged by Chef Todd English with Tim Ferriss.
  • #nophone: “I only turn my phone off when…” judged by ReadWrite.com.

Day 2 – September 25

  • #sixlies: “Six words that mean you’re lying,” judged by Michael Ian Black.
  • #momforgot: “Six words mom never told me,” judged by Jane Pratt and xojane.
  • #threemore: “Secret of life _ _ _ [add three words],” judged by Katie Couric.
  • #stylesix: “Your personal style—in six words?” judged by Tim Gunn and Ada Calhoun.

Day 3 – September 26

  • #timeflies: “Where does all the time go?” judged by Rob Delaney.
  • #hizzoner: “What you’ll miss about Mayor Michael Bloomberg,” judged by Baratunde Thurston.
  • #bettertoday: “I’m better today than yesterday because…” judged by To Write Love On Her Arms.

Throughout the festival, the celeb judges retweeted their favorites, and of those selected, some will be compiled into a new six-words book. In the meantime, we’ve sorted through the #sixwords tag from the past three days to find the weirdest, funniest and most thought-provoking lines.
