If you’re a fan of ska/ska-core/ska-punk, outdoor music, or free things, you’re in luck: The Mighty Mighty BossTones will be playing a free concert on the Boston Common on July 20 at 8 p.m. as part of Outside the Box Boston, a nine-day-long celebration of music and performing arts.
Presented by 92.5 the River, the clad-in-plaid BossTones’ July performance is just one of three scheduled on the band’s official website. They’ll be headed to Canada in June and Baltimore in September – so if you haven’t yet caught the 8-man band on their home turf, this summer’s your chance.
The Mighty Mighty BossTones last released an album, The Magic of Youth, in 2011. Founded in 1983, they have nine studio albums under their belt. Of the original members, Dicky Barrett (lead vocals), Joe Gittleman (bass), Tim Burton (tenor sax), and Ben Carr (backup vocals, dancer, manager) remain. The band reached their height of commercial success when their 1997 album Let’s Face It went platinum, which included their hit “The Impression That I Get.”
Outside the Box Boston will be happening this year from July 13-21; stay tuned for more coverage of the event.
