Sad news for Bostonians this morning. Mike’s Pastry announced that its owner, Michael Mercogliano, has passed away at age 90. In a Facebook status, the North End pastry shop posted the following message:

It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that we announce the death of the grandfather ,father,husband – the Owner of Mikes Pastry – Mr.Michael Mercogliano .
We will love and miss you everyday !! !!!!

The post has garnered nearly 800 likes, 143 shares and more than 450 comments, showing an outpouring of love and condolences from the community Mike’s Pastry as fostered all across the world.

World-renowned for both their cannolis and long lines, Mike’s Pastry has been one of Boston’s most sought-after tourist attractions for decades. The bakery specializes in Italian sweets like cakes, cookies and gelato–a nod to its neighborhood’s rich Italian culture.
