It’s about to be a new year which means you’re probably already pondering how you’ll better yourself in 2015.

From losing weight to gaining strength there are a plethora of mobile apps to help you achieve your healthy living goals. And with some of them Boston-based, why not download this affordable and portable motivation?

After all, tracking your miles and meals have never been so simple.

In a recent survey through Applause, the best apps were ranked for the tracking of health and fitness goals. Applause, an app quality company, collected data using “Applause Analytics,” measuring ratings and reviews from sources such as Google Play and the Apple App Store. According to Applause

Four incredibly popular apps achieved elite app quality status: Calorie Counter by MyFitnessPal [Android | iOS], Lose It! by FitNow [Android | iOS], MapMyRun by MapMyFitness [Android | iOS] and RunKeeper by FitnessKeeper [Android | iOS]. Each of these apps earned average app quality scores higher than 70 that stood the test of more than 50K user reviews.

Another popular mobile app with more than twenty thousand users is the Sleep Cycle alarm clock by Northcube AB [iOS]. As an avid user myself for about a year, I enjoy how this tracker’s alarm feature that will wake me up during my lightest REM cycle. Because honestly, who wants to be told to get out of bed when their deep in sleep?

And while not all apps are created equal there are some that need some tweaking — according to Applause and consumers. Weight Watchers Mobile [Android | iOS] and Fitbit [Android | iOS] both have many users, yet can be developed further. Applause states,

Due to their large number of users, both firms can capture new marketshare and mindshare by further refining their apps. If they can advance beyond merely working, and deliver flawless, reliable and intuitive experiences, they have the opportunity to make significant leaps.

So what will you be downloading to stay on track in 2015? It seems there are many options available to you, especially if leading a healthier lifestyle is one of your New Year’s resolutions.
