#OfficeEnvy: Industrious Opens Its Fourth Coworking Space In Boston

In its fourth and largest coworking space in Boston, Industrious invited the trademark elements of the city’s architecture into the office.

Industrious’ two-week-old location on 131 Dartmouth St. overtakes the third floor of a traditionalist building nestled next to the Back Bay T Station. It houses a handful of common working spaces, nine conference rooms, 135 private offices, a long, grey-tiled kitchen and a few more specialized rooms—like a wellness room for nursing mothers and a focus room.

The Copley Square office “focuses on local elements” and “the marine nature of Boston,” said Daniella Sloane, Industrious’ Northeast Area Manager. “For our Copley space, in particular, our in-house design team looked at the local architecture and some of the roundness of the bricks and the archways in the space which you can then see reflected in the design of the space itself.”

These influences can be seen in the oval-shaped entryways lined behind the reception desk, the collection of thin hanging lights careened from the exposed ceiling and the green-blue color palette that dictates the space.

The well-furnished common working areas are the star of the newest coworking hotspot. Each open corner features an array of modernist, monochromatic chairs and couches and a smattering of leafy green plants. Light hardwood floors contrast the deeper tones of the spaces’ walls and accessories to balance the office.

Between a collection of private offices, one of the back corners houses a library, which is complete with a stacked shelf of color-coordinated books. Other features include an unlimited printing station, mail services, included breakfast and happy hour and several private phone booths.

“The number one goal is to create a productive space for members to work,” said Sloane. “The space is crafted in such a way that people can their best work done, whether that’s in a quieter space, in a conference room or lively common space.”

Community memberships at the new location start from $648, while rent for private offices ranges for $1,121 to $3,834. Industrious’ newest location is also bookended by two large suites, made to hold 40 to 50 employees. The suites are available for rent by individual companies and are priced by inquiry

The opening of the Copley location comes a little over a year after Industrious revealed the company’s first Boston location in the Seaport. That location, plus the newer spaces in Back Bay and the Financial District, have crept toward full occupancy. Weeks after opening, the Copley location is already at 20 percent occupancy with 87 people calling Industrious their full-time office.

Outside of Boston, Industrious runs 81 other locations in 45 U.S. cities.
