Of the many things that remind us of the summers of our youth, two things come to mind: ice cream trucks and ball games. The jingling melody of the big white truck rolling down your street with frozen treats incites just as much nostalgia as the first home run you ever witnessed at Fenway while donning a tiny Red Sox cap.

And even if you can’t actually recall any such moments, you can just imagine all the oozing nostalgia, right?

Regardless, the kid in you is about to pee her metaphorical pants at the end of the month, when former Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez will be cruising around the streets of Boston, handing out free treats from a Good Humor ice cream truck.

It’s all part of Good Humor’s “Share the Love” campaign, which will kick off Tuesday, June 25. What better way to launch a campaign then to surprise lucky Bostonians at various locations around the city with free ice cream and an appearance by Martinez? On the campaign’s first day, he’ll be handing out the treats himself, while posing for pictures in front of the Good Humor truck, and greeting fans across town.

But Good Humor knows that a still-shot picture just doesn’t capture the moment like it used to. So, they’ll have a GIF photo booth available at the truck all day long, where you and your friends can pile in and snap an animated memory – and then post it immediately on Facebook and Twitter and tumblr. (Are GIF photo booths about to become the next big thing? I think yes.)

The truck, and Pedro Martinez, will be cruising around the city all day, but it won’t be announcing its stopping points beforehand. So wherever you are, be sure you’re ready to run outside and chase down the ice cream man at any given moment.

Throughout the rest of the summer, Good Humor will be passing out free treats and giving fans the chance to win various prizes at these events: Free Friday Flicks at the Hatch Shell (various dates), Selena Gomez’s concert at the Boston Common (June 29), Harborfest at City Hall Plaza (July 3), Chowderfest at City Hall Plaza (July 7), and Fisherman’s Feast in the North End (August 15-18).
