For those of you who find themselves glued to the TV on a Saturday morning, watching Phantom Gourmet’s mouthwatering images of local food, you’re not alone. At least, I hope I’m not alone?

The popular show, owned and produced by the Andelman brothers, also puts on some of Boston’s biggest food events, including the Phantom Gourmet Food Festival, Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party, and Phantom Gourmet Wine & Food Phest, among others.

And now it looks like the Phantom Gourmet brothers are expanding their empire even more with the purchase of Massachusetts’ most beloved drive-in movie theatre, the Mendon Twin Drive-In.

The Andelmans recently announced their purchase of the notable drive-in movie theatre. Mike Andelman, Vice President of Business Development for Phantom Gourmet, Inc., explained in a release that the drive-in held sentimental value for him and his family.

“Our family made frequent trips to the Mendon Twin Drive-In when my brothers and I were growing up and it’s always been something that is very dear to us.” He continued, “With there being so few drive-ins left in our country, we thought it would be an incredible opportunity to continue and to grow this landmark destination that means so much to so many people.”

The Mendon Twin Drive-In, located in Mendon, MA, will open for the season on Friday, April 11 and be open nightly from Memorial Day through Labor Day (weekends during the months of April, May, September and October). During the 2014 season, the Andelman brothers will will work closely with the previous owners to ensure a smooth transition, the release notes. But by 2015, the Andelman brothers will take the reins at the drive-in.

Located just 45 minutes from Boston, the Massachusetts landmark features two screens that each digitally project a double-feature of Hollywood first-run movies. The 1950’s-esque theatre offers a snackbar with “fresh popcorn, candy and other vintage theatre delights such as a full line of soft-serve ice cream, raspberry lime rickeys and vanilla Cokes,” notes the release.

Just another thing to look forward to this spring (and the next!).
