The Celtics are in first place, having recently beaten the Knicks 114-73, and have outscored opponents 73-26 in the first quarter of their last two games. All this, and they don’t even have their best player, point guard Rajon Rondo. While there is still no official word on Rondo’s return, he isn’t completely out of the spotlight. He has been honing his shooting accuracy, though not necessarily in basketball. Instead, he’s been dabbling in some cornhole.

Wait, what?

Cornhole, the game played by tailgaters, college students, and anyone with common sense on a sunny day, is apparently a favorite of the Celtics’ star. So when he went on the Fox Sports show Crowd Goes Wild, they implemented a special segment called “Crowd Goes Cornholing.” The teams ended up being Rondo and panelist Katie Nolan facing off against the show’s host, none other than Regis Philbin, and guest Molly McGrath.

Here’s Rondo playing cornhole against the vaunted  “team Regis.”

So…not sure if you were keeping score, but Rondo actually shot the lowest percentage of anyone (50 percent), but he still won.

Judging from this, I’d have to say that a Nolan/McGrath team would’ve destroyed Regis and Rondo. Still, Rajon did nail the late-game shot to tie it up, so Celtics fans can certainly take pride in seeing he hasn’t lost the ability to be clutch. And he closed it out in OT, so a tip of the cap.

Props also to Boston College grad Molly McGrath too. She absorbed Nolan’s trash-talking, dished it right back at her, and hit the board a quality 62.6 percent (including the three that she nailed).
