On Monday, The Ad Club will once again host its CMO Breakfast, inviting a leader in marketing from one of the Boston area’s top companies to speak to over 100 eager-to-learn attendees. Starting bright and early at 8:30 a.m., guests will trickle into the Microsoft NERD Center to get their bearings over a cup of joe, a bagel and, of course, a healthy dose of marketing expertise.
Next week’s guest of honor will be Barbara Messing, the CMO of TripAdvisor. This talented marketer will spin the story of the world’s largest social travel site’s success, and share the ways in which she helped catalyze it. In her time at the Newton-based company, Messing has introduced campaigns resulting in the attraction of more than 260 million unique visitors each month to TripAdvisor. In her role as CMO, Messing continues to expand the company’s footprint across the globe, managing brand development and experience, customer relationship marketing, public relations, search engine marketing, traffic acquisition, as well as partnerships.
Messing’s marketing prowess was forged from years of experience in production, product and customer-facing departments. Prior to joining TripAdvisor, Messing spent nine years at Hotwire, where she dabbled in a number of different roles, including vice president and general manager of Travel Ticker. Before joining Hotwire in 2002, she served as product director at Keen.com and segment producer at The Travel Channel. In 2011, Adweek dubbed Messing a “Brand Genius.”
“TripAdvisor was one of the earliest adopters of user-generated content back in 2000. They revolutionized the travel industry,” shared The Ad Club president Kathy Kiely. “Now, as the world’s largest travel site with a community of 57 million members, the culture of innovation continues.”
Though registration will open and coffee will be brewed come 8:30 a.m., Messing will take the mike at 9 a.m. for a presentation, followed by a Q&A.
Join Messing, President and CEO of Hill Holliday Karen Kaplan and The Ad Club next Monday to talk marketing and munch some brunch. Because is there any better way to kick off one’s week?
