If you’re a pinball machine aficionado, we have some good news for you.
When Down The Road Beer Co. opens its Everett taproom and brewery next week, the space will be home to eight of the top 10 player-rated pinball machines in the Internet Pinball Database. In all, the taproom will have about eight to 10 machines available to play at launch, and that number is expected to grow to around 15 in the next couple months.
Donovan Bailey, founder and head brewer of Down The Road, told BostInno that he’s been a longtime pinball fan, having purchased his first machine back in 2010.
“It’s like a Rube Goldberg machine that actually works,” he said.
Beyond satisfying his own passion, the pinball machines will also help Down The Road stand out among the more than 140 breweries in Massachusetts.
“I think there’s a resurgence of pinball in the world, and a lot of people want to have a chance to see the A-list classics.”
The pinball roster includes Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Addams Family, Scared Stiff, White Water and Theatre of Magic, all of which are top-rated machines.
“I think there’s a resurgence of pinball in the world, and a lot of people want to have a chance to see the A-list classics that are in peoples collections,” Bailey said.
All of the pinball machines will require custom-logo tokens that are redeemable from Down The Road’s token machine. Bailey said he’s planning to do a happy hour where patrons can get a few tokens if they buy a pint of beer.
While Bailey doesn’t anticipate Down The Road running its own tournaments, he hopes to partner with other organizations that can host competitions at the taproom.
Down The Road’s grand opening is Friday, Nov. 3 starting at 5:30 p.m.
