Well, that didn’t last very long.

The Florida Panthers traded goaltender Tim Thomas to the Dallas Stars, less than 24 hours after trading for Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo. Thank goodness, because the tire-pumping jokes were already growing stale.

It will be a reunion of sorts in Dallas. Thomas will rejoin Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley, who were traded to the Stars in the blockbuster Fourth of July deal last summer. All three men were part of the 2011 Stanley Cup winning Boston Bruins. Seguin and Thomas were similarly run out of town by a jilted Boston media.

Thomas will compete with Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen for starting duties. As a playoff bubble team, the Stars will benefit from this competition between the pipes.
