150 miles northwest of the Minneapolis-St.Paul Metro Region nestled between the thick trunks of pine and spruce lies a small unincoporated community called Dorset, MN. With a population of just 22, one would think that any willing adult would consent to the humble responsibilities of Mayor. However, those responsibilities fall on the waist-high shoulders of 4-year old Bobby Tufts, the Mayor of Dorset.

Bobby was elected Mayor at the age of 3 and is up for reelection this year. Picturesque Dorset bills itself as the “Restaurant Capital of the World” with a single highway that runs through the heart of the town lined with restaurants varying in  Mexican to Italian to family style line about two blocks on either side of the highway,” according to USA Today. And the townspeople’s annual Taste of Dorset Festival, citizens pay $1 per vote to cast as many ballots as they wish to afford as a random draw is the deciding factor in who will be elected Mayor the next year.

Bobby gets to draw the winning name Aug. 4, so it’s possible he could draw his own name. It should be noted at this point that the town doesn’t have a formal government.

While many may chalk up Bobby’s high office as nothing more than a figurehead title, the tyke has actually contributed greatly to the town that relies heavily on tourism, resorts, and restaurants. His mother, Emma Tufts, told USA Today “He’s been pretty good. Lotta PR for the town. I think he’s doing a fine job.”

He’s also spearheaded fundraising campaigns for charitable causes, leading groups of about children and adults on walks on the scenic Heartland Trail to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley in Fargo, N.D.

Be sure to look for Bobby’s name on the 2044 Presidential ballot as he’s bound to use his experience at the helm of Dorset for the greater good of the country.
