A great white shark follows kayaker Walter Szuic Jr., of Manchester, N.H., off Nauset Beach at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The sighting, confirmed by a harbormaster a short time later, caused officials to evacuate the water and close the beach to swimming for the remainder of the day. via Cape Cod Times.
Whether you choose to listen to shark warnings or not this summer, this photo will certainly get your attention.
Beaches were closed yesterday on Nauset after a 12-14 foot great white shark was spotted just feet from bathers. The kayakers were approximately 50 feet from shore when the shark first became attracted to them. The great white shark got apparently six to seven feet from the kayakers before they started paddling towards shore. No one was hurt, as the shark eventually lost interest, but this certainly sent some shock waves through the community.
This is awesome! As long as no one gets hurt. Cue the Jaws music.
