When I put together my list of reasons why Celtics fans should cheer for the San Antonio Spurs even if they’re boring, I came across this picture of Justin Bieber sitting courtside at a Miami Heat game, decked out in a Heat snapback, earrings, chains, sunglasses indoors and what appears to be a leather tunic, with a strange cat tattoo clearly visible.

This would be one of the few times “low-hanging fruit” could accurately apply to the young pop star.

Gearing up for the Bruins’ series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals, it was easy to collect compelling storylines. Between Sidney Crosby, Matt Cooke and Jarome Iginla, the Pens were such an easy team to loathe from a Boston perspective. But the Blackhawks? The Western Conference Champions are far too similar to the Bruins to be able to drum up any sort of rancor. Sure, it will be a historic Stanley Cup Finals with something for everyone, even the casual fan. But where’s the hate?

Unfortunately, the Bieber association has been rendered moot too, as he has been spotted not only wearing Bruins gear…

…but Blackhawks gear as well.

Luckily, Google image searches for Bieber wearing Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Revs apparel come up empty-handed. Bieber, a Canadian citizen, is a self-proclaimed hockey fan. He’s met Wayne Gretzky, held the Stanley Cup and even played hockey back in the day. Though he has worn a number of NHL teams’ caps over the years, he is indeed a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, according to an interview with radio DJ Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia.

“It is a tough team, but you know that I’m not joining a bandwagon,” he said. Bieber even attended the Leafs’ practice in 2011.

If there’s any solace, it’s that this is even sweeter now.
