The halls are decked, and now it’s time to deck yourself in the holiday spirit with — what else? — an ugly Christmas sweater. The weekend ahead is teeming with holiday parties in Boston, and you need to find the perfect ugly sweater to woo the ladies under the mistletoe. We’ve come up with a list of the best vintage shops, thrift stores and consignment shops across the Boston area to find a fantastically ugly Christmas sweater this season.
Boomerangs – 4 locations
Not only can you snag some sweet holiday gear at Boomerangs, but all proceeds from Boomerangs go to support AIDS Action Committee of MA, Inc. Boomerangs has stores in four locations around the Hub: Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Central Square and Roxbury.
Buffalo Exchange – 2 locations
This national consignment chain has locations in Davis Square and Allston. According to their website, Buffalo Exchange prices most items around $15, so grab a red designer blazer and pair it with a green vintage tee for a cool Christmas look.
Garment District – 200 Broadway, Cambridge
The Garment District is massive, so designate an hour or two of your time to search through the racks. Be sure to snap a photo of your ugly sweater finds, send it to The Garment District by Wednesday, December 19th, and you will be entered to win prizes, including a $50 gift certificate to the store.
Goodwill – 7 locations
With seven locations in the Boston-area, Goodwill offers endless promise as to the holiday treasures you can find within its walls. However, patience is a virtue at Goodwill – the stores are massive and tend to be very picked over. (Personally, I’m partial to the Southie location for awesome finds.) If you have a car, try your luck at Goodwill’s other locations in Quincy or South Attleboro.
Poor Little Rich Girl – 121 Hampshire St., Cambridge
Ladies, if you’re looking to go retro this Christmas, Inman Square’s Poor Little Rich Girl features garments from a range of decades. Mixing and matching is not only encouraged – it’s practically required.
Second Time Around – 6 locations
Because classy is greater than tacky for the holidays, head to Second Time Around for last year’s Chanel bags, Dior heels or Michael Kors blazers. The more glitter, the better.
SoWa Vintage Market –460C Harrison Ave.
Open every Sunday in the South End, SoWa Vintage Market boasts a large selection of clothing and accessories for you to jazz up your holiday garb. If you’re the party host, check out their household items for fun throwback decorations.
Urban Renewals – 122 Brighton Ave., Allston
This Allston gem is super cheap, but be warned – they don’t take credit cards or have dressing rooms.
