White House photographer Pete Souza captures the presidency on Instagram (image via Twitter)

Given the popularity of photo-sharing app Instagram these days, it was only a matter of time before the White House jumped in on the action. Chief Official Photographer Pete Souza joined the Instagram game two weeks ago (follow him at @petesouza) and has posted pictures of everything from Oval Office meetings to snacks on board Air Force One.

In an interview with TIME, Souza said that he intends for his account to be “a bit more fun and personal” than his traditional work. His Instagrams will come mostly from “situations away from the primary action” since, of course, he must use his iPhone to capture these candid moments.

Souza’s inaugural post was of the official presidential seal on Air Force One, marking his account as primarily a documentation of the presidency. However, he followed up this conventional shot with a subject close to the hearts of many die-hard Instagrammers: food.

“I purposely began with the Presidential seal on Air Force One as a way to introduce this account,” said Souza. “The first thing I usually do when I get on-board the plane is grab a couple of grapes. So I guess I was telling viewers with this second photo that this account would also be a bit more fun and personal…”

Besides snacks, Souza’s more lighthearted Instagrams include a brilliant shot of the Washington Monument at sunset—the most popular post thus far, with nearly 4,700 likes—and a few candids of the First Dog, Bo.

Bo has been featured three times so far on Souza’s account and holds the title for his second most popular post to date with nearly 3,800 likes. The pup is close to the photographer’s heart, he says, since they’re both of Portuguese descent (Bo is a Portuguese Water Dog). Souza joked in the interview that Bo has been complaining about a lack of attention since he started Instagramming.

Souza claims “no filter” is his favorite filter on the app (I hope he knows we can tell if he’s telling the truth). He says not to expect any selfies either, but he hasn’t ruled out trying his hand at Instagram videos.
