Techweek Chicago gets underway this week, and there’s plenty to see. To help direct you to some of the best panels and talks, we rounded up 10 of our favorite Techweek events going on in Chicago.

From talks on diversity in tech, to regulatory issues with drones, to discussing immigration and tech with some of the city’s most prominent founders, here are 10 Techweek events to be sure to check out.

1. Real Life Elevator Pitches

Techweek is holding real-life elevator pitches Tuesday at 9 a.m. Entrepreneurs will get to pitch venture capitalists in the John Hancock Center elevators leading up to The Signature Room at the 95th. The event is currently full, but you can add your name to the waiting list.

2. Capital One Diversity in Tech Summit 

Leaders in the Chicago tech community will share personal stories highlighting diversity and accessibility in tech in this Techweek panel. The talk takes place Tuesday at 5 p.m.

3. Future Founders Mentor Mixer 

Future Founders is holding a Techweek Mentor Mixer Wednesday for college students and aspiring entrepreneurs to meet and get connected with potential professional mentors in tech. The event begins at 3 p.m. and will include a keynote from Robert Blackwell Jr., a Chicago serial entrepreneur and the founder of Killerspin.

4. How Chicago is Making Smart Cities a Reality

Chicago’s Chief Information Officer Brenna Berman will speak Thursday about how Chicago is using connected technologies to be more responsive to residents and to deliver better government services. Attendees will learn about current projects the city is working on and learn more about planned initiatives around IoT.

5. Fireside Chat With BallotReady 

BallotReady wants to make it easier to vote informed in every race and every election. The startup’s co-founder Alex Niemczewski will speak at Techweek Thursday in a fireside chat about how the company helps people compare candidates based on stances on issues, endorsements, biography, or news articles.

 6. Entrepreneurship Panel 

VisMed’s Dima Elisa, Reserve’s Greg Hong, Brideside’s Sonali Lamba, Shiftgig’s Eddie Lou, and Impekable’s Pek Pongpaet will talk on a panel focused on entrepreneurship Thursday at Techweek.

 7. Drones: Enough Talk, Let’s Fly 

This Techweek panel will focus on the risks and rewards of commercial drone operations, touching on current regulatory framework, operation considerations, and barriers to expanded use.

8. Open House Party at the Allstate Innovation Hub in the Merchandise Mart

In this invite-only Thursday event, attendees will get to see Allstate’s new Merch Mart space and learn about that the company is doing in Connected Car and R&D.

9. The Connected Athlete Panel

Rithmio’s Adam Tilton, Catapult Sports’ Ryan Warkins, and Wilson Sporting Goods’ Kevin Krysiak will talk about how technology is changing sports in a panel on the “connected athlete.”

 10. Inspiration, Vision and Roots 

This Techweek panel features Raise’s George Bousis, ContextMedia’s Rishi Shah, FWD.us’ Alicia Race, and BenchPrep’s Ujjwal Gupta as they discuss immigration and tech. The panelists will talk about their entrepreneurial journeys, and the challenges and opportunities that immigration poses to the tech industry – as well as what you can do to advocate for solutions.
