Here are the startup, innovation, tech, and entrepreneurship events to know about this week. We’ll see you there!
Monday, 7/27: We Are Wearables Meet Up: Pet Wearables
You know your dog has been eyeing your Apple Watch. Okay, perhaps Fido was staring at the cheeseburger you had in your hand, but regardless the world of pet tech is growing everyday. We Are Wearables is hosting an event that is all about the way you can track, train, and tech-ify your pets. WonderWoof, a connected bow tie for your dog (complete with a pet social network), will be presenting, while Urban Leash, PetBot, Binatone and FIGO pet insurance will be part of a panel discussion on pet care with wearables and the Internet of Things. 6:30 to 9:00 pm at 1871, more details here.
Tuesday 7/28: Northside Innovation: The Future of the Workforce
Tech has officially impacted the way we work. From workplace tools (such as Slack) to the proliferation of Wifi (which has increased remote working) to an increase in coworking spaces (popular in the startup world), tech has changed the 9 to 5 life as we know it. So what does this mean for future office life and retaining tech talent? Representatives from Northwestern Kellogg, Charlie App, ShiftGig, CrowdSpring, BuiltIn, and Syndio will discuss these trends through lightning talks and a panel hosted by Northside Innovation. Not to mention, Chicago Inno’s own Karis Hustad (that’s me!) will be moderating the panel. 6:30 to 9:30 pm at Kaiser Tiger, more details here.
Wednesday 7/29: FWD Monthly- Industry Reboot: How Local Tech Markets Impact You
How about a little civic tech for your Wednesday? Jason Babcock, CEO of NuCurrent, Inc., a Northwestern alumni startup that uses antennas for wireless power transfer will talk technology and politics at FWD.us’s monthly meet up. There will also be breakout sessions with The Democracy Project, The 2.0 Project, and The Co-Founders Project. 7 pm at the Microsoft Technology Center (in the Aon Center), more details here.
Thursday 7/30: How To Get Investment From A Silicon Valley VC
Here’s how to get a little financial love from the West Coast. North 41, national organization that aims to get entrepreneurs connected with other members of the ecosystem, is hosting a panel and networking event with three Silicon Valley VCs. Representatives from Sand Hill Angels, Band of Angels: Silicon Valley, and Royse Law AgTech Incubator: Silicon Valley will discuss the value they place on a startup team, business, and idea. 6 to 8:30 pm at 1871, more details here.
Thursday 7/30: STP: Networking With Fireball Whiskey and WeWork
Head out to the West Loop on Thursday for some free whiskey cocktails and a get-to-know you session with WeWork’s tenants.
