A new startup has just launched in Illinois to bring you craft booze.

BigFish, founded by Michael Weiss, is a liquor-delivery startup that specializes in selling craft spirits from about 150 distilleries around the globe. The company sells more than 800 options of whiskey, gin, bourbon, rum, tequila and vodka.

“Our goal as a company is to be able to educate these customers on products that have not been made available to them in the past,” Weiss said. “We want to make sure that our customers have the ability to find something different and unique, and be able to enjoy a new experience.”

Weiss said rare liquors available from BigFish include horseradish vodka, watermelon moonshine and 10-year aged bourbon.

“There is something for everyone,” Weiss added.

Consumers order from BigFish on the company’s website or its mobile app, pay an $8 delivery fee and can expect to receive their order within two days. BigFish is currently only operating in Illinois but has plans to expand to other states, Weiss said.

Weiss originally began working on BigFish in 2017, on-boarding distilleries and stocking up on inventory. But the startup just launched to the public for delivery in April. Since then, BigFish has delivered "thousands" of orders, Weiss said.

Unlike other liquor-delivery startups, like Drizly or MiniBar, BigFish buys wholesale inventory directly from distilleries as opposed to sourcing alcohol for its deliveries from nearby liquor stores. BigFish stores its inventory at its headquarters in Lincolnwood, Ill.

In the future, Weiss envisions BigFish hosting tasting events.

“Our main goal is to continue to give customers access to the world of craft spirits,” Weiss said. “We want to make sure people can drink what they want to drink.”
