Last month, 14 Chicago tech companies joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel in announcing the addition of over 1000 jobs in the city during 2017.
One of these companies was marketing and sales automation company ActiveCampaign, which projected 150 new hires.
To accommodate these plans for expansion, the company just opened a new 50,000 sq. ft. headquarters in the Loop at One North Dearborn. Almost half of this space is kept aside for shared meeting spaces and conference rooms, which are “employee-named and reflect a shared love of sci-fi and fantasy entertainment,” according to a press release.
“We have a culture that encourages constant iteration and eschews hierarchies, and we wanted our workspace to reflect that,” said Jason VandeBoom, CEO and founder of ActiveCampaign, in a statement. “We knew that we were quickly outgrowing our former office, and we felt it was time to shift locations and create a space that serves as a collaboration hub for our employees.”
The new space, housed in the same building as Sears’ former flagship store, includes an open, collaborative café space in the center, a 3,000-square foot lounge area and game room named “Knowhere”, and a bookshelf that doubles as a revolving door, concealing a meeting room “speakeasy.” Chicago-based Eastlake Studio designed the modern open-concept floor plan, with active participation from ActiveCampaign employees during the design process.
This calendar year alone, the company, which was founded in 2003, has added 70 new employees, to reach a total of 150. The new space can accommodate 200 more, and the company is looking to hire a mix of developers, designers, project managers, customer success managers, support specialists and marketing and sales executives.
