This is our monthly feature where we recap the biggest tech hires in Chicago over the past month. Here’s our list of the top hires and promotions in Chicago tech for July:
Chicago healthcare media company ContextMedia announced this month that it has hired Dave Sheehan as its chief marketing officer. Prior to ContextMedia Sheehan was the president of advertising agency HY Connect, where he helped grow the agency from a startup office to a company that generated nearly $180 million in billings. In 2015 he led the company to an acquisition by Myelin Communications, a holding company wholly owned by Baird Capital. At ContextMedia, Sheehan will lead marketing and communications in its New York City and Chicago offices.
Label Insight, a Chicago startup that’s bringing more transparency to grocery store products through data science, announced three executive hires this month. Mike Fridholm was named SVP of Sales. He has spent almost 30 years in the consumer packaged goods industry at companies like Quaker Oats, Catalina, and WPP. Deepak Talwar joined Label Insight as its VP of Operations, having previously worked at Amdocs, where he managed their relationship with AT&T. And Jesse Frankel was named the company’s VP of Customer Success after a stint as the Executive Director of Digital Solutions at Catalina.
Aperture Group, the parent company of OptionsHouse, announced this month that it has hired Sarah Butterfass as its chief marketing officer. Butterfass comes to OptionsHouse from Orbitz, where she served as Vice President of Customer Loyalty. This month Aperture also hired Lance Braunstein–formerly the managing director and global head of investment banking technology at Goldman Sachs–as its CIO. E-Trade acquired Aperture earlier this month.
This month Uptake hired Andrew Means to lead the Uptake Foundation, which will work with nonprofits, foundations, and governments around the world to execute data science projects and support the growth of data infrastructure in the social sector. Means was previously the co-foudner of The Impact Lab, and he also spent time at Groupon and was the director of research and analytics at YMCA Chicago.
Chicago investment firm Pritzker Group announced two new promotions this month. Gabe Greenbaum, who joined Pritzker Group in 2012, was promoted to partner, and Peter Liu, who also joined in 2012, was promoted to vice president. Greenbaum has led the firm’s investments in startups like X.ai, Hightower, Augury, Catalytic, AiCure, SightMachine and Options Away, while Liu has been a part of more than 25 early and growth-stage investments including SMS Assist, Eved, Opternative and ViV.
Chicago-based parking app SpotHero announced that it has hired Nate Phillips as its West Coast general manager. SpotHero, which recently expanded to Los Angeles, said Phillips will focus on growing SpotHero’s West Coast operations. Prior to joining SpotHero, Phillips spent six years with parking management services company Propark, where he was responsible for Western regional operations.
Chicago-based digital video advertising firm Strike Social announced that it has hired Joe Juhnke as its CTO. Juhnke was previously the director of software engineering at Shoppertrak. Strike Social says Juhnke will help grow the company’s enterprise technology offering with new specialized products, additional platforms and customer-focused development practices, and will build the technology team.
