Hailo, the innovative taxi-hailing app lauded for a grabbing a cab in two taps, has moved to the D.C. burbs. Friday, the service launched in Alexandria and will be recognized by the mayor at the steps of Alexandria’s City Hall at 11:30 a.m. But the best part? In honor of the launch, Hailo will be offering free rides all weekend.
For a while now Hailo has been servicing D.C. But its expansion to Alexandria means more options for D.C. area residents to travel outside of the District more affordably and more quickly.
And to celebrate it, you can go wild this weekend without having to worry about transportation. According to a press release, “Hailo will be offering a Free-Ride Weekend all-weekend in the DC area to honor of this expansion.” We’ve reached out to confirm what “the DC area” means, but it’s likely anywhere that Hailo services locally.
The release also didn’t shed details on what “Free-Ride Weekend” meant, but a past launch in Montreal offered free rides, too, and that gave Hailo users this:
There are no promo codes to enter. Just download the Hailo app and take your free rides. If the fare is over $15 (including tip) only the difference will be applied. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and explore our amazing city!
However, Hailo is also offering a $20 credit to new users, so perhaps that’s their idea of a free ride. Either way, it’s still pretty cool. Just use the code ALX20.
Update 10:09 a.m.
A representative has clarified that the free rides are by way of the $20 credit for first time users throughout the metro area. Past D.C. Hailo users “will also receive a special offer via email.”
