Uber is offering free rides this week to anyone going near the WMATA Silver Line stops in Tysons Corner and Reston. Although Uber claims it’s to help people get around construction ahead of the Silver Line officially opening on Saturday, but really it’s a clever way to score more customers who might be feeling frustrated with the current messiness around the Silver Line in Virginia. All you have to do is use SILVERLINE as the promo code on the Uber app, and arrange your rides before midnight on Thursday.
It’s not quite unlimited rides in the area, but the two uberX rides of up to $30 each that begin or end in the map area below is still pretty good, especially if you’ve been stuck in traffic around there lately. Along with the free rides, using Uber to get to the Tysons Corner and Reston area will get you a free appetizer at Chef Geoff’s Tysons Corner and a glass of wine at PassionFish Reston Town Center when you show your Uber receipt before Friday.
The fact that the deal arrangements probably didn’t happen overnight means Uber may have been planning the promotion even before the latest ban on it in Virginia was lifted. The offer basically continues Uber’s unstated policy of ignoring any regulation issues it has in Virginia, whether its citations from the Department of Motor Vehicles or civil actions brought by local taxi companies.
